Call for Proprietary Time-Designated Proposals

The proprietary time-designated proposal program is intended for users wishing to conduct proprietary research at their preferred time. Proposals can be submitted at any time, and submitted proposals are reviewed on a rolling basis. Please note that users are charged the beamtime fee: 720,000 yen/shift (regular fee + 50% premium).

As part of proprietary time-designated proposal program, we also accept applications for the SPring-8 measurement services: XAFS Measurement Service at BL14B2, Powder X-ray Diffraction and small Angle Scattering Measurement Service at BL19B2, Mail-in Protein Crystallography Data Collection Service at BL38B1, HAXPES and Thin Film Analysis Measurement Service at BL46XU. For details, please click here.

1. Beamlines and Beamtime Available to Users

All 26 public beamlines and RIKEN Diagnosis Beamline I(BL05XU) are available. If you would like to use the other RIKEN beamlines that are available for public use, please contact SPring-8 Users Office of JASRI. If you don't have previous experience using the beamline you would like to use, please make sure to consult the Beamline Scientist before submitting a proposal. Since the beamtime for time-designated proposals is arranged after the beamtime for other types of proposals is fixed, please check the schedule with the Beamline Scientist beforehand.

2. Application Method

Please submit your proposal application online from the User Information Website (UI site). Before starting the application process, please first carefully read the "Call for SPring-8 Research Proposals -Overview-."

UI site > Login > Application/Reporting > Proposal/Use Plan Submission > New > Proprietary Research > Time-Designated Proposal

The minimum beamtime allocation unit is 1.5 shift for BL32XU.
<BL38B1 and BL41XU>
The minimum beamtime allocation unit is 2 hours (0.25 shift) for BL38B1 and BL41XU.
If you wish to request beamtime in increments of 2 hours (0.25 shift) for BL38B1 or BL41XU, please truncate a number to first decimal place when submitting your application online. (e.g. If you request 0.25 shift, please input “0.2”.)

3. Submission Deadline

We accept applications on a rolling basis (no specific submission deadline). Please allow at least three weeks for processing before your preferred experiment start date arranged with the Beamline Scientist.

4. Review Criteria

Technical feasibility, safety of experiment, sociality and ethicality are reviewed. Scientific and technological relevance and necessity of SPring-8 as a research tool are not reviewed.

5. Notification of Review Results

Applicants will be notified of the review results by phone or via email about two weeks after the proposal submission. An official written notification will be sent at a later date.

6. Other
