Abstract

Date&Time: 14 October 2003, 16:00-17:00

Speaker: Prof. Marcel Van de Voorde
Affiliation: Max-Planck-Institute at Stuttgart and professor at the University of Technology in the Netherland

Abstract
This lecture will:
i) give an overall picture of the "State of the Art" in Materials Science and Technology;
ii)highlight the future targets "2010" in Materials Science and Technology;
iii) provide "research roadmap(s)" to achieve the 2010 targets.

These elements will be reviewed from four points of view:
i) Materials Synthesis and Processing,
ii) Materials Phenomena and Properties,
iii) Advanced Analytical techniques, iv) Materials Theory and Modelling.
Special emphasis will be given to
i) Nano (small-length scale) Materials Science and Technology,
ii) Innovation in Materials Science by new Interdisciplinarity Approaches;
iii) Eco-Materials Science and Technology.

The whole spectrum of Materials: metallic-, Ceramic-, Polymeric-...and Electronic-, Magnetic-, and Optical ....Materials.

The lecture will highlight the importance of internationalisation in Materials Science and Technology and suggest mechanisms for international collaboration:
an example will be given for the topic: "Synchrotron Radiation and Neutrons for Nano (small-length scale) materials science and technology".
