Portable small deformation press

 The small deformation press, Hyakushiki Press, maintained in the experimental hutch 2, was acquired through Grant-in-aid for educations and researches in national universities in 2022. Hyakushiki Press has a main ram with a maximum load of 200 tons and a deformation DAI-type guide block that includes a differential ram with a maximum load of 70 tons for sample deformation under high pressure. The first-stage anvils on the deformed DAI-type guide block have two sizes: 27 mm square and 50 mm square, and the angular aperture of the anvil downstream of the X-ray is 5° per side. Hyakushiki press is installed on a portable 5-axis high-speed stage. This high-speed stage can be controlled with an accuracy of 1 µm in the translational direction (y1, x, y2, z) and the z-axis rotational direction (κ), and its maximum movement speed is 1 mm/s in the horizontal direction and 0.14 mm/s in the vertical direction. In principle, the Hyakushiki Press is available for use through Joint Usage/Research of the Premier Research Institute for Ultrahigh-pressure Sciences (PRIUS) operated by the Geodynamics Research Center (GRC) at Ehime University.

X-ray detector

 The scintillator used for X-ray radiography image measurement is LuAG:Ce with a thickness of 0.15 mm. The image on the scintillator is in turn formed on a CMOS image sensor through a side-viewing mirror and a telecentric lens. The telecentric lens magnification is 2-10x, and the CMOS image sensor pixel size and resolution are 6.5 x 6.5 µm and 2304 x 2304. The pixel size and resolution of the flat panel detector for 2D X-ray diffraction image measurements are 99 x 99 µm and 2064 x 2236, respectively.
