Title : The Southern Light: History and Future Development of Accelerator Physics in Australia

Abstract :
Australia has a long history in the development of accelerator and x-ray science with the famous work by Mark Oliphant and William and Laurence Bragg.
However, since the pioneering work of these physicist there has not been much development on Australian soil until the Australian Synchrotron lightsource was started almost a decade ago. This laboratory has revitalised the interest in accelerator research and development in Australia and facilitated the participation in international accelerator collaborations. This talk will give a brief history of accelerator physics in Australia and highlight the current research activities with a view to broadening our collaboration here in Japan.
