Overview of Research Group, Goals and Purposes:

This group aims promotion of fundamental / practical study for structurally disordered materials such as liquids, amorphous, and glasses. The group discusses, recommends and disseminates the developments of the experimental techniques in SPring-8. The group also keep in close communication with the neutron experiment, theory, and simulation groups to totally advance the study of the disordered materials.

Relevant experimental techniques are x-ray diffraction, anomalous x-ray scattering, x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) for static structures, and inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS) for dynamics. RMC (Reverse Monte Carlo) simulation technique is also important to analyze and visualize the structure of the materials. Fast time scan, micro-beam and coherent x-ray are important keywords in near future experiment and thus are the subject to be discussed and developed. Target materials are, all type of liquids which include (room-temperature) ionic liquids, supercritical fluids, and liquid metals, and disordered functional materials such as superionic conductor, DVD material, and glass materials.

Regular activity is meetings usually held one or two times a year. The mailing list and homepage are frequently used to inform useful information about SPring-8 and exchange opinions.
