Overview of Research Group, Goals and Purposes:

@X-ray spectroscopy such as X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) using synchrotron radiation (SR) has been indispensable methods for solid state physics, material sciences, catalysis researches, and environmental and earth sciences. This situation is reflected in the fact that the number of publications using BL01B1, a conventional XAFS beamline in SPring-8, has reached 400, showing that the X-ray spectroscopy including XAFS and XRF is very important application of SR in SPring-8, as well as structural biology and X-ray diffraction studies.
@For such a mature method, most of the researches using X-ray spectroscopy can be various studies applied to different fields, which may cause that the users of the technique consist of various researchers in different fields without having close cooperation. In the situation, it is possible that the analysis of each researcher can be a routine work, which might be developed significantly if they have more information given through the communication with stuffs at SPring-8 and also with other researchers using the methods. In SPring-8, various beamlines related to X-ray spectroscopy is available such as BL01B1 (normal XAFS, quick XAFS, depth-resolved XAFS), BL14B2 (normal XAFS, quick XAFS, industrial use), BL28B2 (dispersive XAFS), BL37XU (micro/nano beam analysis, maicro/nano-XRF-XAFS, depth-resolved XAFS), BL39XU (polarized XAFS, lifetime-free XAFS, micro/nano-XAFS), BL40XU (milliseconds quick XAFS). Few users may know the effectiveness of every beamline in the X-ray spectroscopy fields in the SPring-8. Hence, the information given by the stuffs at SPring-8 is very important to promote new sciences in each field.
@On the other hand, users must develop new applications of X-ray spectroscopy to new fields. For this purpose, it is needed to optimize or even develop the method to the new fields, where the approach from users to the stuffs in SPring-8 is very important. Such communication will grow innovative sciences from SPring-8.
@From these viewpoints, our research group will perform activities below:

  1. Promote applications of X-ray spectroscopy to various researches with providing information from stuffs in SPring-8.
  2. Promote sharing common knowledge related to preparation of samples and suitable analytical methods to each sample.
  3. Integrate requests from users to SPring-8 related to the application of their studies using X-ray spectroscopy.
  4. Promote interaction with researchers in the different field from X-ray spectroscopy.
