Overview of Research Group, Goals and Purposes:

Studies of structural materials science at SPring-8 have been carried out to reveal relationships between crystal structures and physical properties of novel materials such as strongly correlated electron systems, fullerene related compounds, organic solids, magnetic materials, dielectrics, semiconductors, metals, and so on. The activities in the fields of physics, chemistry, and earth science have resulted in many accomplishments. In order to satisfy the growing demands for research of structural materials science at SPring-8, the diffraction crystallography should be combined with spectroscopy and imaging as well as developed to the measurements of dynamics with the change of circumstances like temperature, pressure, and gas atmosphere. The activities are as follows:

  1. Time-resolved experiments.
  2. Accurate structural studies by single crystal and powder diffraction.
  3. Structural studies of thin films and devices.
  4. Simultaneous measurement of structure and physical property.
  5. Structural materials science under high pressure at very low temperature.
  6. Development and improvement of measurement and analytical method.

The aim of the group is to perform pioneering work of structural materials science at SPring-8, to create technical bases for structural materials science, and to eliminate heterogeneity between different fields.
