BL17SU Spectroscopic photoemission low energy electron microscope

Inquiry number

INS-0000000383

A SPELEEM has been introduced at BL17SU in the framework of nanotechnology support project of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (2002 -2006). Its powerful performance for nanoscale microspectroscopy has been used for wide variety of scientific fields nowadays.
SPELEEM has the top of world standard spatial resolving power. Variable 3 different imaging modes (real space imaging, reciprocal space imaging and energy dispersion mode), and 3 different excitation sources (highly brilliant circularly polarized soft x-ray, electron beam and Hg mercury lamp) are available in BL17SU of SPring-8.
Such potential performance and multi function of SPELEEM enables us to obtain wide spread information with high accuracy from the surface of solids, for example, element selective magnetic domain structure, spatially resolved x-ray absorption spectrum, local structure at surface and spatially resolved electronic structure.
BL17SU covers broad photon energy region from 300 to 2000 eV. Lateral resolution of SPELEEM reaches 14nm in LEEM mode and 22nm in PEEM mode. SPELEEM is currently utilized by various scientific researchers not only nanoscience but also industrial application and planetary science.
