ABSTRACT

  The BL44B2 is a materials science beamline using high-energy powder diffractometry.The main scientific purpose is to reveal correlations between structures and properties in novel functional materials based on the charge density structure. To achieve the purpose, the optical parameters have been optimized and the powder diffractometer has been developed. Taking advantage of the beamline, high counting statistics and high angular resolution data can be collected in several minutes from powder samples with several milligrams. The white beam generated from the SPring-8 standard bending magnet is monochromatized and focused by the optical components. The beam optimized for powder samples sealed in a glass capillary is irradiated to the samples on the diffractometer, by which a camera method with transmission geometry allows to collect a whole diffraction pattern simultaneously.

EXPERIMENTAL STATIONS

  At the experimental hutch II, there is the Debye-Scherrer camera with a camera radius of 286.48 mm which is equipped with an off-line imaging plate (IP). Twenty data can be collected on one IP by using a mask with a 10 mm width slit. The IP covers a 2-theta range between 2 and 75 degree with a 0.01 degree interval. By using a high- and low-temperature N2 open flow system enable us to control the sample temperature from 100 to 1000 K easily and quickly.
