概要

The 2nd US-Japan Workshop on Synchrotron Radiation and Nanoscience follows on the successful Workshop held in Tokyo in March, 2004 which was sponsored by the Japanese Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI). The purpose is to provide an update on those areas of research in NanoScience where Synchrotron Radiation techniques play or could play an important role in the U.S. and in Japan, and to provide opportunities for increased exchanges, discussion and collaboration between U.S. and Japanese scientists. The Workshop will be held in San Diego, California on April 4-6.

Areas of Nanoscience which will be covered in the workshop include:
Research on the structure (including electronic and magnetic structure) and dynamics of nanotubes, nanoparticles, nanodots and nanocrystals; nanostructured magnetic materials; nano-bio composites; thin liquid films; spin, charge and orbital ordering in highly correlated systems; single molecule systems and molecular electronics; and novel techniques for using Synchrtotron Radiation to study nanosystems, including X-ray imaging and microscopy, X-ray nanoprobes, resonant X-ray scattering and inelastic X-ray scattering.

This workshop is sponsored by:

  • Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Laboratory
  • University of California, Office of the President
  • Physical Sciences Division, UCSD
  • Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI / SPring-8)
  • Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)
