Overview of Research Group

Many advanced measurements are made every day at SPring-8, and a large amount of data is produced. However, it is difficult to extract important information existing in this huge amount of data. In addition, the current situation is that even if one measurement data is taken, not all the information contained in it can be extracted. On the other hand, in the information science, methods related to data structure and feature extraction have dramatically evolved for a large amount of data. Therefore, in order to break through this situation, we will improve data analysis by introducing data-driven science, increase the scientific value of data in SPring-8, and contribute to the development of synchrotron radiation science. It is also the purpose of our group to enlighten and implement the methods of data-driven science in the SPring-8 users community.

Activity goal / purpose

  1. Implementation of data-driven science concepts and technologies
  2. Development of new analysis methods using sparse modeling
  3. Estimating scientific models using Bayesian model selection
  4. Extraction of features from high-dimensional data such as image data and correlation extraction between the features and physical quantities and laws of physics.

The above four activities will be carried out in collaboration with other community of practice/interest in SPRUC and related academic/industrial societies, and will contribute to cutting-edge researches in all fields at SPring-8.
