The Specific Synchrotron Radiation Facilities Users Community (SpRUC) serves as the user organization for specific synchrotron radiation facilities. In close collaboration with the Registered Institution for Facility Use Promotion and the facility owners such as RIKEN, SpRUC acts as a bridge between SPring-8, SACLA, NanoTerasu and the academic/industrial communities, supporting the advanced and optimized use of these facilities and contributing to scientific and technological progress. Through interactions among members, SpRUC aims to promote the development and advancement of synchrotron radiation science and quantum beam science.
To achieve these goals, all users of SPring-8 become members of SpRUC automatically upon registering as SPring-8 users.
SpRUC consists of a Chair, a Council, Secretaries, and various committees. The Council has 30 members, each serving a two-year term, with half elected annually. Council candidates are recommended by institutional representatives (described later) from among the members and are elected by the membership. The Chair is elected from among the Council members and appoints Secretaries (term: two years).
To obtain advice on the management of SpRUC, Representative Institutions and Institutional Representatives are appointed. Representative Institutions are selected every two years by recommendation of the Council and approval at the General Assembly, from universities, research institutes, and companies with many SPring-8 users. Institutional Representatives are chosen from knowledgeable users affiliated with the Representative Institutions who can gather opinions from research sites based on user perspectives. They participate in the Representative Institutions Meeting, recommend Council candidates, and provide expert advice on SpRUC activities.
