Emergency

Dear SPring-8 Staff

JASRI & RIKEN Harima Institute

We set up the system to receive Earthquake Early Warnings (the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is providing residents in Japan) in central control room of the storage ring and connect it to the broadcasting system in SPring-8.

This will automatically alert us with alarms and an announcement  'Jishin - hassei, Attention Earthquake' repeatedly for 30 seconds, when the Japan Meteorological Agency estimates over 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in this region.

Please take appropriate action below, as soon as you hear the announcement.

1) Remain calm, and secure you personal safety based on your surroundings.
2) Move away from large appliances or pieces of furniture that could fall over and take cover under sturdy table or other object that provides similar protection.
3) Don't rush outside.
4) After the earthquake, please turn off the gas or put out fire and give the injured people aid if necessary. Please move to the nearby evacuation space. (Do not use the elevators.)

· In those areas close to the focus of the earthquake, the earthquake early warning may not be transmitted before the tremors hit.

· In order to make effective use of the earthquake early warning, it is important to think over emergency response so that you can take appropriate action as soon as you receive the warning.
