会議の目的
　比較的高融点の金属合金内部の凝固過程の観察が、硬X線を用いたX線イメージング技術により可能になりつつある。凝固後の組織である「凝固組織」から凝固過程を推測するのではなく、組織・欠陥が形成される過程である「凝固している組織」の観察から組織形成、欠陥発生を実証的に解明する手法は、物理モデルの構築、組織制御、プロセスの最適化に有益な知見を提供できると期待されている。
　このワークショップでは、ESRFならびにSPring-8で行われている金属材料の凝固過程の観察の現状について紹介し、他分野の研究者も含めてX線イメージングの応用について検討する。
