ABSTRACT

BL02B1 is designed for studies of single crystal structure analysis and there are a large cylindrical image-plate (IP) camera, hybrid photon counting detector and 4-circle diffractometer made by HUBER. In conceptual design, the double silicon crystal monochromator can select the X-ray energy between 8 and 115 keV from synchrotron X-ray radiation through bending magnet by inclined geometry.
However, many experiments actually carry out using the X-ray energy range between 12 and 35 keV. Right now, we are focus and push to research for precise structure analysis of functional materials by the large cylindrical IP camera in this beamline.

AREA OF RESEARCH

The large cylindrical IP camera and hybrid photon counting detector are very useful for crystal structure determination of not only inorganic materials but also organic materials. It is possible for inorganic materials to analyze crystal structure by using high X-ray energy, even if it composited by heavy atoms. This large cylindrical IP camera can observe high statistic data. We can therefore carry out to research for precise structure analysis, especially for charge density study.

SOURCE AND OPTICS

There are two mirror coated with platinum at upstream and downstream position of the double crystal monochromator (see schematic view of beamline). The double crystal monochromator and secondary mirror set up on the deflection and elevation stage and the height of stage is aligned in dependence on the glancing angle of first mirror. Synchrotron X-ray radiation is collimated by first mirror to first crystal of monochrometor, and the X-ray energy is selected by double crystal monochromator (energy resolution: ΔE/E=10-4). Secondary mirror can focus X-ray beam for vertical direction by mirror bended. These mirrors are also useful to not only focus X-ray beam but also cut off high order X-ray energy (8 - 60 keV). For over 60 keV there mirrors are removed and high order X-ray energy is cut off by detuning of double crystal monochrometor. The sagittal focusing system of secondary crystal of monochromator can focus X-ray beam for horizontal direction . The beam size (FWHM) is 0.1 mm×0.1 mm (H×V) at sample position. Maximum photon flux is 1010 phtons/sec.

      Energy range 5 - 115 keV
      Energy resolution ΔE/E = 10-4
      Photon flux <1010 photons/s

EXPERIMENTAL STATIONS

We have one experimental hutch. In the hutch there are two instruments for single crystal analysis. One is the large cylindrical IP camera at the upstream side and the other is the multi-axial diffractometer at downstream side. Followings are the description of them.
