ABSTRACT

BL23SU is a soft X-ray undulator beamline of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). It is used for research areas such as fundamental heavy-element research and environment and energy materials. The experimental stations are located at the experimental hall and the RI building. For now, users can make use of the Biophysical spectroscopy station within QST’s jurisdiction.

SOURCE AND OPTICS

  • Light source
    Twin helical undulators (THU), which produce circularly-polarized soft X-ray synchrotron radiation, were used as a light source. Polarization of light can be switched with the repetition frequency of 10 Hz by the kicker magnet.
  • Schematic view of beamline and monochromator system
    The main optics is a varied - line - spacing plane grating type (VLSPG) monochromator. This consists of an entrance slit, spherical mirrors, varied-line-spacing plane gratings, an exit slit, a post-focusing mirror, and refocusing toroidal mirrors. The soft X-rays are guided over 120 m from the undulator, crossing the two areas (experimental hall and RI hall).
